who was abducted by the FBI and caged for 10 days without charge

Several organisations including Inminds Human Rights Group, came together to organise the London protest outside the United States embassy, as part of a global action in solidarity with Marzieh Hashemi who was finally released from FBI custody on 23rd January 2019, after being caged for 10 days without charge.

#FreeMarziehHashemi

Outspoken African-American Journalist Marzieh Hashemi, who is news anchor at Press TV, was abducted by the FBI on 13th January 2019 whilst visiting her family in the United States. No reason has been given and she has not been charged with any crime. Both her hands and feet were chained and she was moved to an undisclosed location in Washington DC where she was caged.

For two days she was not allowed to call her family, and when she finally did she reveal the abuse she had endured. Her hijab was forcibly removed and she was forced short-sleeved clothing that does not comply with her religious dress code. She was denied halal or vegetarian meals, only being offered pork, effectively denying her food.

Following a global campaign to free her, she was finally released after 10 days imprisonment without charge.

Material Witness Warrants

The FBI used a loop hole in the law called "Material Witness" warrant to abduct, abuse, shackle and cage Marzieh Hashemi in a secret hell hole, without charge for an undefined period of time (in her case 10 days, others have disappeared for months).

Since 9-11 on average over 3000 hearings have been recorded per year for people abducted by the FBI under "Material Witness" warrants (2000-2002). Human Rights Watch survey of "Material Witness" abductions found 98.6% of the innocent victims abducted by the FBI were Muslims.

The protest was to raise our voices against this unjust law and the resulting mistreatment and detention of people like Marzieh Hashemi.

Marzieh Hashemi speech at Washington DC Rally

The London protest was just one of over 20 protests held across the globe for Marzieh Hashemi. Marzieh personally addressed the rally in Washington DC.

Her speech:

“I was kidnapped, make no mistake, they can call it whatever they want to call it but I was kidnapped from St Loius airport. Fortunately my son Reza was with me otherwise who knows what could have happened. You can disappear, you can be made to disappear very easily and then the case can be sealed. There is no way you can be found out because of National Security. I don’t know how long we are going to tolerate this kind of injustice.

They can say it’s legal but all freedom loving people around the world know that this illegal detaining, or I will say kidnapping, transferring, shackling, imprisoning, taking off my hijab and so many other things; they can call it legal but we know that it is not legal.

What they’re trying to do is to intimidate and to instil fear in each and every one of us. So that you don’t stand up for your rights. So that they can do whatever they want at any time. But believe me as I have seen it and felt it and gone through it, the true power comes first and foremost from Allah (swt). And having that belief and knowing that ultimately Allah is in control.

I have one life to live, we have one life to live, so make it count. You want to take my life? Take it. But before you do, I’m going to give it all I have. At the end of the day we all will die, so make sure that your life counts for something. Stand up for the oppressed!”

"1763 in the Ohio river valley you got Lord Jeffrey Amherst committing to written order an instruction to his subordinate Henry Bouquet, having been defeated by Pontiac Ottawa confederacy in the field. The order essentially says that they have been defeated militarily and is therefore necessary for Amherst forces to request a peace, to sue for peace from Pontiacs people. He instructs Bouquet to convene a parlay with the Indian leadership for that purpose. And as is the custom, as is common courtesy among native populations as was known to the Brits at that time, it would be necessary for those who requested the council to give gifts to those requested to attend. Make those gifts, Amherst says, items taken from a smallpox infirmary in order, I'm going to quote directly now, this isn't a paraphrase: 'in order that we may extirpate this execrable race'. Now key is on this last word, had he said that we might eradicate the opposing combatants, their military capacity, their warriors.. what ever term he wanted to use, it would have been biological warefare. But he didn't say anything about that, he said the 'race'. His intent was to use biological means, to use disease, quite explicitly so, to eradicate an entire population group. And Bouquet was also kind enough to commit to writing in his response the next day, I have done as instructed, dispersing three blankets, two handkerchiefs and sundry other items, hopefully, he says, they will have the desired result. They did.. the lowest estimate of the number of people who died of smallpox as a result of that little gesture of friendship and goodwill is a 100,000!"
