Washington - The USA will ask the European countries during the
NATO summit today in Washington to include the Islamic Resistance
Movement, Hamas, in the list of terrorist organizations, according
to an American official.
He recalled that his country had previously tabled the same request
with the Europeans but French opposition foiled the attempt.
The European Community distinguishes between Hamas military
and political activities. The French foreign minister last week
opposed a proposal to blacklist the Hamas Movement.
France asserted that its position came in unison with majority
of EC members.
The French foreign ministry denied Washingtons accusations
that Paris was giving a blind eye to Hamas fund-raising campaigns
on French territory and was impeding the adoption of a firmer EC
policy against that Palestinian Movement.
