The STUDENT council at Birminghams University of Central
England have voted in favour of a motion banning anti-Israel
literature on campus.
One of its proposers, Ian Wasserman, commented: There has
been quite a lot of anti-Israel material handed out by Socialist
students. When they are confronted, their favourite argument is
that they dont have a problem with Jews, but with Zionism.
We wanted to show that you cant differentiate.
The council decision was welcomed by Union of Jewish Students campaigns
co-ordinator Clive Gabay.
It is an encouraging sign that people are standing by Jewish
students, he said, especially because in the past, UCE
has been the scene of anti-Israel activity.
